Taste and See
At my church’s retreat a few weeks ago, I learned the song Psalm 34 (Taste and See) by Shane & Shane. During this hectic semester, these words have become an anchor and reminder of the Lord’s faithfulness.
Psalm 34:4
I sought the Lord and He answered me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
How often have I sought the Lord and he answered me? How many times has he delivered me from my fears? More than I can count.
Psalm 34:5-7
They looked to Him and were radiant,
And their faces will never be ashamed.
This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him
And saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him,
And rescues them.
The Lord has been good to David. He has been good to me. And he will be good to me.
I only need to cry out to the Lord for help, to fear him from the depths of my heart, to look to him in times of trouble.
Psalm 34:8-9
O taste and see that the Lord is good;
How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
O fear the Lord, you His saints;
For to those who fear Him there is no want.
Truly, may I taste and see that the Lord is good. How he has answered me, delivered me, heard me, saved me, rescued me from trouble time and time again. Over and over, I have received peace beyond understanding, joy beyond comparison, and blessings beyond my imagination. May I open my eyes to experience and witness the blessings I receive when I take refuge in him. What a sweet reminder of the Lord’s faithfulness to us. He is our Protector and our Deliverer. And knowing this, how could we not sing his praises forever?
Psalm 34:1-3
I will bless the Lord at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul will make its boast in the Lord;
The humble will hear it and rejoice.
O magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt His name together.
